What Does Your Faith Demand?

Faith demanded that three women who were tired of the status quo, ban together to make a call to action for Black people from this call the national #BlackLivesMatter movement began. That same Faith demanded that 7 other women take a dramatuc stand with only faith and a card board sign between them and oncoming trafic on Los Angeles' Main steet. There they stood with raised fist and faith in their hearts for victory in righteous cause, the survival of Black lives. These women capture the spirit, courage and determination of the #blacklivesmatter movement.

I made this observation of the nobel heart of a champion when I took some time to walk amoung them. This Sunday I was invited to observe the situation and see if there was any thing that I could do the include the clergy in their struggle. So I began a while prayer walk around BlackLivesMattter--LA. (BLMLA)encampment. I was praying to discern what my faith in a God who stands with the oppressed, the widows and orphans.

At the request of the leadership of Los Angeles Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, I responded to the call of the BLMLA to be and coordinate and spiritual presence in the camp. (It was painfully obvious that there were no ministers, pastors, rabbi nor Imans in the midst to comfor and encoure the activist.) It was not long before God answered my prayer because I took the first step of faith by responding to the call God gave me a purpose. My purpose is the use my gifts, common experience and Community Development resources to connect spiritual leaders and proactive pastors with the leaders of the Black Lives Matter movement. The first thing I decided to do was to lead by example so the very next day, I got up early in the morning and prepared myself to represent God consciousness and offer the morning invocation and word of inspiration to the participants. I put on my Minister Collard shirt. (for dramatic effect) and to be an obvious spiritual leaders presence.

While there I could not help but think of  the biblical account of the Prophet Deborah and the military leader Barak of the ancient Hebrew Bible.

There seems to be many parallels between this account and the Black Lives Matter movement. The people were tired of being oppressed and they decided to take a stand by first crying out to God for assistance and deliverance.

I was reminded of this ancient story when I saw several young women boldly and courageously walk in the middle of Main Street in downtown Los Angeles without police or any other protection and actually stop traffic in order for their voice and unity may be heard and manifest.

This account can be found in the fourth chapter of the Book of Judges in the Hebrew Bible. What I find fascinating is that when the prophet Deborah, who is the spiritual leader of that community, called for the military man, Barak to go forth and fight for the deliverance of his people from governmental oppression and enforced military measures. Barak said he would not go to fight the system unless Deborah the woman of God, of Courage, of personal strength and spiritual power would go with him.

Deborah said she would go with him into battle. However because of his cowardice approach to this matter Deborah said that he would not get the glory for this victory.

As the story progressed Deborah goes into battle with Barak, the battle was fierce but victory was in sight. The military leader and his army who came to destroy Deborah and her people were defeated by the formerly oppressed people. The chief of the opposing force jumped down from his chariot and began running for his life. He ran into the tent of a mighty woman of God for comfort and protection and something to drink. He asked for water and she gave him warm milk as he fell asleep with the Sweet Taste of milk in his mouth sister Jael ended his life in that moment.

I do not share this account to promote violence of any kind, what stands out to me in this account like our present challenge the men were strangely missing. The women took up faith and courage with the support of all who would stand with them. They won a victory against the system of oppression in her day. Two courageous sisters, Deborah and Jael, walked past fear in faith and decided that they would take the risk of even their lives.I see the same type of fire passion and determination in the women of the black lives matter movement today. They have said to themselves enough is enough. These bold sisters responded to the demand of faith in God and their people to declare that Black Lives Matter, the lives of their husbands, brothers, sons, nephews and sisters matter to them. They could no longer remain silent and inactive. The women of BLM have decided to stand up. I believe people of faith can learn from the Women of BLM. They can learn how to get up off their praying knees and become the answer to their own prayers. The women of BLM are working out their beliefs in the practical application of their faith and beliefs in their daily affairs.

Here is where we can a draw a principal. When faced with a challenge, I recommend asking yourself, "What can I do during this trying time?", "What does my faith in God demand of me in this hour?"

In the Christian Bible, in the letter of James he asked the question, "What good is it my brothers and sisters if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds?" Can such Faith save them? James goes on to make the declaration "Faith by itself if it's not accompanied by action is dead."

Therefore, I say that we must search our heart and do a deep soul search and ask ourselves,  "What is God requiring of me? Where can we get involved? How can we use our God given gifts and talents for the survival of and people? God has given me in service and partnership with the  participants of the Black Lives Matter movement? What is your faith in God demanding that you to do in this hour?"

Today, seek God for direction and guidance through prayer and meditation. Then rise up to be used by God to live out your destiny and be the answer to your own prayer. What you may discover is that you were born for such a time as this! God has sent you into this world to make a difference for all Humanity. Let's go! Together we win! If God for us, Who can be against us? Remember God always stands with the oppressed, the orphans, the widows, and you and me. Keep going with clean hands and a pure heart!.

You can run but you can not hide....Proverbs 28:1

The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, But the righteous are bold as a lion. Proverbs 28:1

The wicked are running because the consequence of their action are chasing them along with the accompanying guilt. For the wicked can run but they can't hide from their selves nor God. The confidence and bravery of the righteous honest person is the consequence of righteous actions. When one is standing on a strong foundation of integrity and truth, then God and the entire universe stands with them confirms their words and deeds and emboldens them to be lion like in their demeanor.

Worship is the Gateway

Worship is the gateway to breakthrough. I recently discovered this fact while I was facing a horrible situation that was too much for me in at the natural. But I was asked by a spiritual father to worship God. After a time of singing praise songs we turned our attention to God and worship.  Worship is magnifying the worth and value of another. When we worship God we magnify his character in virtues. So at the request of my Elder I entered into worship for about an hour. Worship allowed me to take my mind off my problem long enough for God to work a breakthrough.

While my mind was on God in worship, God was creating a situation for my deliverance. The breakthrough happened for me during my worship.  I ckecked my email after the time of worhip of God only to discover that GOD was working on the heart of someone else to give me the breakthrough that I needed. I had a voicemail  and email documenting this fact .

Another example of this pathway to breakthrough came the very next day. I had been struggling to resume my work as a Uber driver. After pushing through the difficulties of resuming the work, getting all the paperwork in place and  verifying documents. NOW I was ready. I turned on the Uber Partner app but after about ten minutes no passengers.

It came to my mind to start worshiping  and before even two minutes of worship my first client called and within a few minutes my first passenger was in the car with a long distance trip to Long Beach.

I realize that God was trying to teach me something that worship is the pathway to breakthrough. Worship gives all minds the opportunity to turn away from the bigness of the problem to the Greatness of God. In the space created by Worship our hearts are encouraged  and God gets the victory.

Please take a moment to watch the  Periscope  video that I have attached to this blog. In it you will find my discussion about the breakthrough and a special treat, my personal testimony of how I came to spiritual breakthrough.  Peace and and blessings. Remember to keep your hands clean and your heart pure. You can't go wrong with that.

What's Going On?

What is really going on? is a term our youth say to indicate that they want to hear the truth, the real raw truth not just our pat answer like: It's all good or Everything's alright. What going on is a question that we have been ask for years. It subconsciously assumes that we do not know whats REALLY going on. Do you have an analysis, and answer or solution? What's happening in our families, neighborhoods, and cities? It seems like it does not matter what urban area in any state there is a bunch of stuff that is going on that boggles or minds. We are scratching our heads in wonder time after time when we hear Judaical verdicts that leaves dead bodies in the graves without justice being served.

What Going On? I recently heard an young artist raise the question whats going on? She said in this generation we have to give an answer to Marvin's question. The following video clip was born out of an reflection on that question. I believe one thing that is going on is that we are being programmed by negative and destructive images of ourselves in the news and on reality TV among other venues. These images help others to see us as uncultured and not worth of the breath needed to keep us alive. This programming goes into our children's psyche and causes the to dislike and even hate themselves. It causes others to devalue us and provided justification for us to be disrespected and even killed with impunity. It causes the youth to replicate what they have been programmed to do and behave, resulting in low self esteem and performance in school. We need to develop content that will offer deprogramming from negative imaging and plant positive seed that will bring a harvest of whole fully develop citizens. This video is just the beginning. God is taking us to a new level. Check out what me and my family Kev Og have been up to...we are taking over the image...

White Privilege ii by Omar A. Muhammad, Th.M

"We take all we want from Black culture but will we show up for Black Lives!-- Macklemor, White Privilege ii

Today I listened to one of the most famous hip-hop artist today, a white brother named Macklemore. The quote above was taken from his recently released song presented in the original spirit of Hip Hip called White Privilege ii.

It is a hauntingly honest reflection and critique of his white privilege. Macklemore correctly labels and analyzes the root and foundation of white privilege namely, White supremacy. By doing so Macklemore affirms The Cress Theory of Color-Confrontation. Cress Theory of Color-Confrontation

it appears that Macklemore agrees with and confirms the work of Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, author of the seminal 1991 work The Isis (Yssis) Papers: She like Macklemore maintains that white supremacy is the foundation of racism in America and the world.

I am proud of this young man who has broken his silence and have taken a stance for justice, peace and the well being of all humanity.

I will use this song and share it with my children and students because of it usefulness to raise the right questions for us to address the core issues of racism. Keep Going young brother Macklemore and crew. May God continue to give you courage and opportunity use your voice, position and privilege for good.  Guidance and protection.

Big shout out to Russel Simmon who introduced me to this song on his Twitter feed @uncleRUSH follow him and this link to hear the song for yourself.

Let's continue to raise our collective voice until racism is defeated and not just #BlacklivesMatter but All lives Matter.

Live the Dream on Periscope: Monday Matters w/Pastor Omar

On this Monday I did not allow the distractions of the modern world to take me away form celebrating the work and life of Dr. Martin Luther King,Jr.  In the past I allowed the celebration of Dr. King's Holiday to be co-opted by the interest of others. My former jobs made me come into work by trying to make me feel  guilty with word's "like its at day on... for volunteerism rather than a day off.. That was all good but I volunteer through out the year. I always felt cheated when they forced me to work on Dr. Martin Luther King's National Holiday.  So, some how I would always end up volunteering my youth at the local  Martin Luther King, Jr. Kingdom Day Parade in Los Angeles. This is where God gave me the idea that it's time to stop dreaming and put our faith in action to proactively change the conditions of the people that Dr. King loved so much. It always disturbed me how some employers would make all the other holidays a paid day off from work but. They would make employees take their other paid leave days for the holiday celebrating the Life of a hero, a Decedent of American Slavery, a "Black Man." To me that's a form of subtle racial oppression used by cunning people to take the value out of the Holiday.

I guess I am so sensitive to this National Holiday because I had a part in it becoming a National Holiday. I lived on the East coast at the  time. We made an annual pilgrimage to Washington D.C. To petition the Federal Government to make Dr. King's Birthday a National Holiday. We would conduct economic boycotts and stage large marching demonstrations. I will never forget the day in which we were marching in DC. At this time I was a Howard University student, We were marching in the deep cold of a DC winter. My feet were freezing they were so cold that I began to second think my commitment to stay until the end of the march, but late in the march as we were staging for closing words. The genius Steve Wonder came to the stage. He started singing the famous birthday song as a dedication to Dr. Martin Luther King. The words were so moving that it actually warmed my heart and the hearts of those who were marching in solidarity. At that mystical moment, the enduring song not only got locked into our collective conscious and hearts it became a stable at our birthday parties.  It must have also touched the national leaders because, republican President Ronald Reagan signed the Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday into Law.  Yes... in hind sight he may have also been encouraged by our effective economic boycotts.

Today I did not get distracted. On this MLK Day I allowed the Spirit of  God and Dr. King to lead me  into deep reflection. Its my tradition to Listen to Dr. King speeches on this day but today I was lead to focus on one sermon, of  Dr. Kind "Why I Am Opposed to the Viet Nam War." This message motivated me in a strange way. I was lead to extract quotes and principles out of the message for use on social media and to guide my faithful expression of social action against injustice.

Its strange how things change over time. I used to think the Dr. King was a weakling for allowing other to hit, spit on, stab and shoot him, but now I recognize he was indeed operating with supernatural power as a true disciple of Jesus even as his white christian brother cast doubt on his calling and ministry. He continued to stand courageous even while in prison, read a Letter from a Birmingham Prison, Dr King  for all this and more I  Thank You Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for your LIFE and ministry. You showed us the way... My God bless his name and soul for ever. Happy King Day... Live the Dream.

The Sleeper Must Awaken to Live The Dream

Today I meditating on the legacy of #Dr.MartinLutherKing, I'm  challanging people who follow me to reflect deeply on the following message by Dr. MLK Jr.  Why I Opposes to the Vietnam War.

This message is significant because of  its important content,  it reveals the heart of Dr. KING. It's because of the stance Dr. King took here, dark forces speeded up the process of his assignation.

Listen to discover Why he was killed. dr. kKing saw the direct correlation between our governments use of violence and the use of violence in our nation and nation.

I know by reflectively listening, we can learn from Dr. King  how to use our religious faith in God to bring about positive change in our world.  With the tools extracted from this message we can project the principles presented in the message on to our times. THEN we will be equipped take a  proactive stance to incorporate the motivations of Dr. KING'S  heart into our own heart and raise our collective voice as inheritors of the #MLKDAY legacy.

Do not be afraid to participate in civil unrest for righteous causes. Remember there is protection in numbers can. They not kill us all. We must wake up and Live the Dream.

Below you will find a link to the entire speech of Dr, King. He said himself that this is a departure from His normal preaching messages. Yet I believe God took over to bring us a Word with the heart of God in Dr. King.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday 2027

Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s actual Birthday. I was reflecting on the first day I heard  Steve Wonder's birthday song. I was a Howard University student, we were marching on Washington DC Mall to get the attention of President Regan to make Dr. King's birthday a national holiday.

It was cold day with ice on the ground. But when Steve Wonder came out and sung this song. Our hearts were strangly warmed and then  we had a sound for our cause.

Please reflect on the lyrics as we approach the national holiday.

Steve Wonder had a vision too as to how we could commorate this holiday. He saw a global party celebrating world peace. His vision is far superior to what's its becoming a day of voluteer work. "A day on instead of a day off." Some employers don't even resoect the national holiday and requrier their employees to work denying them the time to reflect on the life and work of Dr. MLK JR and it's impact on our life and destiny.

We really need to think about how WE will celebrate our hard earned holiday. By the way I'm thankful for former President Ronald Reagan for signing off on Dr. King's National Holiday.

Check the video below and reflect:
